Dr. Laura Powell
Education: Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine
Born and raised in Lima, Ohio, Dr. Laura Powell can't remember a time when she didn't want to become a veterinarian. Growing up, Dr. Laura cared for many of her own dogs and cats, and took weekly horseback riding lessons that undoubtedly inspired her to pursue a career as a veterinarian. After graduating from Lima Central Catholic High School in 2007, Dr. Laura went on to Saint Mary's College, in South Bend, Indiana, where she majored in Biology and minored in Dance. Upon graduation, Dr. Laura applied to veterinary school and began work at The University of Notre Dame, caring for mice, rats, and rabbits. In 2012, Dr. Laura followed her dreams all the way to the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, to attend veterinary school at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM). After a rigorous three years of pre-clinical education in St. Kitts, she moved back to the United States to complete her clinical year at Oklahoma State University. In 2016, Dr. Laura graduated from RUSVM, as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. In 2016, after nine years of travel and training, Dr. Laura moved back to Ohio to practice veterinary medicine here at Kessen Veterinary Clinic! She is thankful to be back in the area and to serve the community that helped her become the person she is today. Dr. Laura recognizes the
importance of the human-animal bond, which is why she loves companion animal medicine. Here at Kessen Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Laura works primarily with dogs and cats. Her veterinary interests include animal behavior, internal medicine, and anesthesia. She is most passionate about low-stress handling and appropriate pain management. In her spare time, Dr. Laura coaches a competitive dance team, and enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and their dogs!
